De Britse componist Herbert Howells dankt zijn bekendheid voornamelijk aan de prachtige koormuziek die vooral in Engeland veel wordt uitgevoerd, maar die je toch ook bij ons gelukkig steeds vaker tegenkomt. We laten vanavond één van zijn liederen horen: ‘My eyes for beauty pine’:
‘Mijn ogen smachten naar schoonheid,
mijn ziel naar Gods genade.
Dat is al waar ik om geef, waar ik op hoop.
Ik kijk omhoog, naar de hemel’.
