De Britse componist Henry Purcell werd vaak geïnspireerd door verzen uit de Bijbel. Hij was onder de indruk van hun poëtische kracht en ze raakten hem diep in zijn hart. Eén van die bijbelverzen staat in de brief van Paulus aan de gemeente van Filippi: “Verblijd u in de Heer te allen tijd, en wederom zeg ik: Verblijd u... Rejoice in the Lord alway”.
